Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of New Haven County Criminal History. Reading its content, visiting a page, or submitting a search signifies acceptance of every term stated below. Anyone who does not agree must stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. New Haven County Criminal History is privately operated and has no connection to New Haven, the State of Connecticut, or another government entity. It is not a private investigative business or a consumer reporting agency. Neither the website nor its advertising partners supplies a service for tenant, employment, credit, insurance, or any other decision controlled by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The website serves only as a reference for locating official New Haven record sources.

1. What This Website Is

This website is a privately operated reference resource, independent of every government office. It does not keep official criminal records. It also cannot retrieve an official file, submit documents for a user, or perform an official background check.

Readers are directed to sources that include New Haven Police, Connecticut Superior Court, the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's State Police Bureau of Identification, the Connecticut Department of Correction, and the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry. Links may also lead to research services operated by third parties.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of access, you must not:

  • Use bots, scrapers, or other automated means against the website
  • Interfere with performance or prevent another person from gaining access
  • Attempt to enter protected systems or obtain unauthorized access
  • Use website information to threaten, stalk, or harass a person
  • Rely on website content for lending, housing, insurance, or hiring decisions
  • Violate a federal, Connecticut, or local law through your use of the website

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Neither material on the website nor results from a linked tool may be used to intimidate, threaten, stalk, harass, or discriminate against another person. CGS §§54-250 through 54-261 specifically restrict misuse of Connecticut Sex Offender Registry information. The registry exists for public-safety awareness. It does not authorize vigilantism or illegal discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

New Haven County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the FCRA. No credit report, background check, or other consumer report is produced here. The website and its advertising partners do not supply tools designed to assess job candidates, rental applicants, creditworthiness, or insurance pricing. You agree that information from the website or any linked service will not be used to:

  • Determine eligibility for a permit, license, or government benefit
  • Assess an application for housing or screen a prospective renter
  • Set an insurance premium or evaluate creditworthiness
  • Make a decision to employ or dismiss a person
  • Carry out any other activity regulated by the FCRA

When a legally regulated background check is required, obtain it through Connecticut DESPP or a suitable provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Website content is general information, not legal advice. An overview of New Haven records cannot decide how a Connecticut erasure rule, warrant, conviction, or charge affects a particular person. Seek advice from an attorney licensed in Connecticut.

6. No Warranties

All website material is supplied "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • A partner search result will be accurate or comprehensive
  • The pages contain no bugs, mistakes, or security weaknesses
  • Service will remain available without a disruption
  • Information will always be current, complete, and correct

Criminal records can change when charges are filed, dismissed, erased, or otherwise restricted. Information gaps and delays cannot be eliminated. Nothing published here constitutes an official statement by Connecticut Superior Court, New Haven Police, or another government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to New Haven municipal offices, Connecticut court portals, state agencies, legal-aid organizations, and outside search providers. Following a link leaves this website for a service outside our control. We are not responsible for that service's availability, content, fees, or data practices. Read its terms before proceeding.

8. Intellectual Property

New Haven County Criminal History or its content partners own the website's text, code, logos, and graphics. You must obtain written permission before modifying, distributing, copying, or creating derivative works from that material.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the greatest extent permitted by law, we bear no liability for damages arising from website use, including a decision based on material obtained here or through a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against any demand, action, or claim resulting from your website use or a violation of these terms. This obligation includes related costs and legal fees.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by Connecticut law. A dispute arising from use of New Haven County Criminal History must be filed in a court located within Connecticut.

12. Changes to These Terms

These conditions may be revised at any time. A revision becomes effective when the updated terms are posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, every remaining provision continues in effect. The affected term will be modified only to the minimum degree needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
