Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies the response. New Haven County Criminal History does not log or retain those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Email messages are retained as needed to prepare and deliver a reply. They remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by a legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads a page, the servers automatically receive certain technical and usage details:
- The date and time of each page request
- Your device's assigned IP address
- The referring website, when one is available
- Your browser type and version
- The device category and operating system
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a visitor's device. They help measure how the website is used, including which New Haven County record pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers combine this activity into traffic reports. You may block cookies through browser controls, although doing so can change how some website functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the appropriate partner service
- Diagnosing errors and correcting technical problems
- Measuring which pages visitors use and where improvements are needed
- Operating the website reliably and maintaining its performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect a visitor's interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
New Haven County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. Its content directs readers to such official sources as New Haven Police, Connecticut Superior Court, the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's State Police Bureau of Identification, and the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person. The website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention, processing, and disclosure practices. Review those terms before entering a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to New Haven municipal departments, Connecticut court portals, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or third-party search services. Once you follow an external link, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Review that policy before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites for targeted advertising. That tracking does not occur on systems controlled by New Haven County Criminal History.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. It may be disclosed to the following recipients when applicable:
- Analytics providers that measure website traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that deliver ads on the website
- Search providers that process a query submitted through their tools
- Government bodies or law enforcement when disclosure is compelled by a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used to protect collected data. No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security, however, and New Haven County Criminal History cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, it will be deleted promptly.
Your Data Rights
The Connecticut Data Privacy Act, CGS §§42-515 through 42-526, may grant additional rights when its scope and exemptions apply. At a minimum, you may:
- Opt out of certain forms of data processing
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Request a copy of the information held about you
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised from time to time. Any revised version will be posted here and identified by a new effective date. Review this page periodically for the current data-handling terms.
