The agency that created or holds a New Haven criminal record is responsible for questions about that document. Connecticut does not operate a New Haven County clerk, sheriff, or records department. City police reports, Superior Court files, statewide repository histories, and correctional information therefore follow separate routes. New Haven County Criminal History is a private reference resource and cannot retrieve, certify, change, or erase an official record.

This Is Not a Government Office. New Haven County Criminal History is privately operated. It cannot obtain criminal records, conduct an official background check, accept an erasure filing, or correct or remove a government record. Those requests must be made directly to the appropriate public office.

Need an Official Record?

Select the official custodian based on the type of New Haven record involved:

  • Erasure or pardon relief: use the applicable process maintained by the Connecticut Judicial Branch or Board of Pardons and Paroles
  • Custody or supervision records: search through the Connecticut Department of Correction Offender Information Search
  • Fingerprint questions: reach SPBI at 860-685-8270 and complete CCHRS pre-enrollment for the correct service
  • New Haven arrest and incident reports: call NHPD Records at 203-946-6312 or use 1 Union Avenue, New Haven, CT 06519
  • State criminal histories: contact the DESPP State Police Bureau of Identification, 1111 Country Club Road, Middletown, CT 06457-2389, at 860-685-8480
  • Court files and dispositions: begin with the Court Case Lookup or contact the clerk at the Superior Court that handled the matter

NHPD does not guarantee published walk-in completion hours. Confirm service with Records before making the trip. Anyone visiting a court should also verify the present clerk location through the Judicial Branch directory.
