Arrest Records in New Haven
An NHPD arrest can create several records. Police make the arrest or incident report, the Connecticut Superior Court creates a docket if prosecution follows, and fingerprints can form an arrest cycle in the SPBI repository. DOC may later add custody or supervision data. Each New Haven arrest record has a different custodian, purpose, and update time. It is not a conviction record.
NHPD handles city police events. Yale Police may hold reports for its jurisdiction, while Connecticut State Police keeps records for state and highway incidents. There is no New Haven County sheriff, sheriff's records division, or county jail. Ask the agency that made the arrest for its report. Use municipal FOIA for city records, Judicial access for court files, and state systems only for the functions they actually serve.

Their fields, date limits, paging, and export behavior can change, so no fixed controls should be assumed. A listing does not state the final court result.

Take a matching event to NHPD Records for the source report and to Judicial lookup for any filed prosecution. Do not identify someone from a name alone.
New Haven County Arrest Lookups
A complete New Haven arrest search follows the event from local police processing to court, repository, and custody records. Keep the full name, incident date, location, report number, and docket number together. Search results from different dates may not yet agree.
- Check NHPD Police-to-Citizen recent activity and search the Judicial Daily Docket by defendant and New Haven location.
- Search Judicial Pending Case by defendant. If a docket appears, use docket-number mode to confirm the court, charge, and dates.
- Call NHPD Records at 203-946-6312, then request the releasable arrest or incident report through the department's official FOIA route.
- Use DOC Offender Information Search only for sentenced custody or DOC supervision. A no-result does not disprove a recent arrest.
- For one's own fingerprint-linked Connecticut history, use CCHRS/SPBI. Ask the court clerk for a certified disposition when the outcome matters.

The NHPD report request page asks for party names, incident date, time, location, incident type, report number if known, and a clear description of the requested record or body-camera footage. Those are matching keys, not a promise of disclosure. Active-investigation, privacy, victim, witness, minor, medical, and protected communication redactions may apply.

Ordinary report copies cost $0.50 per page. Reports of ten pages or fewer may be emailed without charge. Checks and money orders must be payable to Treasurer, City of New Haven. Ask for electronic delivery, an advance cost estimate, and all nonexempt portions if part of a report is withheld.
Arrest Records: What They Contain
A New Haven arrest file describes custody and allegations at a specific point in time. It can include the officer's basis, processing details, and release or court-presentment path. Public copies may omit a date of birth, home address, victim or witness details, medical information, protected communications, or active-investigation material.

Charges entered at booking may change, be nolled, be dismissed, or resolve under different filed counts. Match any arrest record to the court docket before describing its outcome.
New Haven Arrest Record Timelines
Booking, court, and repository data move on separate timelines. NHPD records the event and processing facts. Prosecutors decide which charges continue, and the Superior Court clerk records appearances, pleas, disposition, and sentence. SPBI receives fingerprint-linked arrest and disposition reports, but reporting time, identity matching, corrections, pardons, and erasures can make the systems differ.

If a disposition is missing from one's own repository history, obtain certified court proof and use the SPBI correction process. Preserve each record number and the date each source was checked.
Recent New Haven County Bookings
No county booking log or county jail roster exists. NHPD may hold a person for processing and presentment, after which the person may be released or transferred under court and correction rules. Police-to-Citizen offers recent city activity, while the Judicial daily and pending dockets show public court action. Neither is a full lifetime arrest history.
New Haven Correctional Center at 245 Whalley Avenue is a Connecticut DOC correctional center, not a county jail. The facility primarily serves pretrial people from several Superior Court locations. Its presence in New Haven does not mean every new city arrest appears in DOC search.

Search keys include DOC number, last name, first name, and date of birth. State data are updated daily, while Youthful Offender and ICE-held records are excluded.
Why DOC Misses New Arrests
DOC profiles can show a name, DOC number, status, controlling offense or sentence, facility or supervision status, and public admission or release dates. They do not contain the NHPD narrative, complete court docket, police evidence, or necessarily the newest New Haven arrest. A person who was released before DOC transfer may never appear there for that event.

DOC Public Information can be reached at 860-692-7780 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A failed search must not be treated as arrest clearance.
New Haven Mugshots Are Not Outcomes
NHPD's official request page does not advertise a public mugshot gallery. Police-to-Citizen activity may describe an arrest, but unofficial galleries and people-search vendors should not be used. A booking image records one point in processing. It does not show whether prosecutors filed the same charge or whether a court found guilt.
Connecticut erasure under CGS §54-142a can later require a matter to be treated as erased. Public use should separate allegation dates from court outcomes and avoid republishing private identifying details.
Arrest Records vs Conviction Records
The agency and legal meaning differ. An arrest record proves that custody or police action occurred. A conviction record shows that a court entered a guilt judgment on a charge. Verify the court result before describing what happened after a New Haven arrest.
